My baby is now two weeks from her first birthday--wow!!  Two weeks ago I have completely stopped breastfeeding (she basically was weaning herself, so I just went along with it.)  After 11 months of nursing, I was also ready to be done.  We all know the benefits of breastfeeding that doctors and books tell us, but I have the top 5 (okay 6) things I miss about it (and these are not in order of importance, just as they come to mind):

1.  You never run out of milk--and its always fresh.  I have found now that we are doing formula that I will be down to the last few scoops and not have enough for the morning feeding.  Yikes--now I have to run to the market with pajamas on so I don't have to go in the morning.  Never had to think about that before!

2.  Washing all those damn bottles, nipples, air ventilation components...what a bitch!  My hands are dry and wrinkly now...

3.  Calorie burner--I could eat extra calories and they would disappear.  It's the best diet in the world!  Now I will have to get off my ass and exercise...

4.  I haven't had to use a tampon in two years!

5.  Its FREE!!

6.  This one's a bonus for all you "green" girls--its all natural and Eco-Friendly!!

I Love It!!  I am sure that there are many more reasons. I can think of a couple.....
1. Naps-a could nurse my son to sleep!

2.Time Out Mommy-laying down to nurse after a long hard day, no one would bug me!

I stopped in January after 45 months and I still miss it some days. I know I am crazy; ask anyone and they will agree!!

I love how their breath smells after they nurse.  So sweet- nothing like formula or cows milk.

Now that he is a toddler, i love that I always have something comforting to offer him when he falls (which happens a lot)

An excellent excuse to shop at Nordstrom's (their nursing mommy rooms are the best)

I did not breast feed but wish that i had now that i know what i do. In nursing school you learn that not only is it beneficial for the baby but also for you. When you breast feed yur body releases a chemical known as oxytocin which causes uterine contractions, what does this mean, things go back to their prepregnancy state much quicker. Another great benefit is that it helps you to lose another about 30 pounds because of a build up of fluids in the system that breast feeding helps to eleminate.

I am sooooo happy that I got to nurse my last baby.  He was my fourth and I was bound and determined.  My favorite was his sweet sweet breath.  I would stick my nose in his mouth all the time.  I know that sounds so strange but I will never forget it.

Also, I love the time we spent together.  I will always remember looking down at him nursing around 4:00 am and him looking so peaceful.  I will miss it.

I nursed all 3 of my children and the first was by far the easiest and by my third I was ready to nurse him til he was 10. =) I only did it til he was 14 months. Such great things everyone said about breastfeeding. I hope some mom out there questioning whether she should go on or even try will read these comments and know how worth it is and yes, how cheap it is. When I was a surrogate this past year, after the birth I pumped for 6 weeks. I had hoped to go 12 weeks, but it's a lot harder to pump and not a lot of incentive if there is no baby screaming at you. But it is true, it did help me get back to prebaby. By week 4 I was back to my previous size, still some skin needs to tighten up, but that just takes time

I just had to comment and say how cool it is you all are gung ho for breastfeeding. I only wish I had this kind of network 7 years ago with my first. =)
